1. Where are you from? How did that lead to your development as a skater and person?

I’m from a small city called bellflower that is right next to long beach in sunny California. I feel lucky to have grown up rollerblading in California because the majority of rollerblading’s industry was based out here early on. It was easy getting around; there were TONS of rollers and more than enough spots. Cali has given me more then I can ask for; my passion for wine and music, my friends, and an opportunity to meet a few of my heroes in rollerblading as well as a few industry legends. I’m glad I grew up here Los Angeles County.

2. What kind of skating interests you the most, why?

It’s hard to say exactly what kind of skating interests me the MOST, I mean there’s all kinds of skaters that I love to watch that all skate completely different from each other. What separates you on wheels from someone else? What you put into your skating is what makes you interesting whether it be your huge stunts, unique style, new switch-ups, or crazy creativity as long as you put your own individuality into it. I think that when people have fun on skates, they come up with new tricks or add a new twist to rollerblading and they’re the ones I love to watch. Some people just strike a chord with me, I don’t know how to explain it but I love what they do for our sport. Funny you should ask that, considering you’re one of those people.

3. Is style the most important aspect of skating?

It is important but I don’t think it’s the only thing someone needs to make skating great. Besides, good style is in the eye of the beholder. Someone who likes one person’s style might not like someone else’s so who’s to say who has the best style? As long as you keep your own unique style in mind I think that’s enough, but it’s not the most important aspect of rolling.

4. What are your goals for yourself as a skater, do you have any?

I have a simple goal for myself; every time I skate I have to try at least one trick I’ve never tried before or skate something differently. Some tricks don’t always come out as good as I hope but I never stop trying.

5. What does the term “westside” mean to you? Given that definition, are you westside or die?

To me it simply means Tupac. I’ve been living here for as long as I could remember but I don’t hate on other places at all. I’m actually dying to go to the east coast if I ever get a chance or someone lends me couch space haha! But in all seriousness, I’m really a Biggie fan.

6. Do you have any passions other than skating? What are they?

I’m really into wine and music based video games. I would do more but I really just don’t have that much spare time, it sucks. Also, music plays a huge role in my life as it does everyone else’s as well. I’m really passionate about writing too, but that has taken a back seat as of late unfortunately.

mute 180, or couldn't you tell?
7. Are you currently enrolled in school, if no do you plan to go? Why?

I am currently enrolled in Long Beach City College and should be transferring to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo or Cal State Fresno next year. I’m majoring in viticulture (Winemaking) and I’ve developed a pretty good outlook on school. There’s so much I want to do and so many classes I want to take! But I admit it is a bitch trying to skate and go to school sometimes.

8. Should all bladers be a loving and all accepting family or does hate play a necessary or positive role?

Bit of both, Bladers should embrace everyone who rollerblades as family because it keeps our community strong, we need to make sure no one feels left out of the loop. Critiquing someone’s skating is different from just hating on someone, it’s not completely wrong because without people critiquing our skating to some degree we wouldn’t try to improve on certain aspects of our skating. The problem with hate is that it’s not productive, I don’t like it when people hate on others for something as dumb as how they dress, what they listen to, look like, or do with their life. It’s not our business.

9. What would you say to someone who said you were wasting your life rollerblading? Does it bother you that there isn’t a lot of money in rollerblading?

First off I’d say, “F**k you!” The best times I’ve ever had on life were on skates and if it weren’t for rollerblading I wouldn’t have met my best friends and been to all the places I’ve been to. The reason people say that we’re wasting our lives rolling is because they don’t know how to enjoy their own lives. They think that we don’t go to school or work jobs, well most of us do, the ones who don’t are the cream of the crop and rollerblading IS their job. Well as for money in rollerblading, I believe we’re on our way up. We experienced a major drought and everyone saw the popularity and the industry shift from the States to Europe back a few years ago. But now our influence is strong everywhere and with the improvement on sales from rollerblading companies combined with our growing numbers we will become a force and the money will come. Pros and company owners need enough money to stay here for us.

10. Any shout outs?

Kevin and Tommy boy for giving me this opportunity, Jeremy, Cydney and the rest of my Gardena family, Greg, Keith, Kevon, Vince, Dan and my long beach family, Aarin, Tyler,
Toby and my san diego family, James short, Ben Schwab, Demetrious, Ranier, Obidobi, my Carson family, Jonathan and my Los angeles family, Ron, john pez, Jess D. and everyone from Santa Ana, Fifty-50, Xsjado, and the Conference.

There is no doubt that I’m leaving people out but this can get REALLY long, I’m sorry if I didn’t mention anyone. Everyone I’ve skated with is part of my family and I respect you all. Thank you.
