17 September 2009 CHANDRAPUR: Seven-year-old Burhanuddin Kanchwala brought laurels to Chandrapur town and the country by bagging silver medal in the 27th Zemist
international speed skating championship 2009 held at Zemist, Belgium. Burhanuddin, a second standard student of local Narayana Vidyalayam, was the only skater from India to bag the silver medal.

Skaters' federation of India (SFI) had selected top talent from the country to represent the country during the international skating fete organised by Federation the International for Roller Skating (FIRS), Spain on September 12 and 13.

"The selection trials were held recently during the training camp organized in Pune by SFI. I remained focused on the basics during the competition which helped me to bring honour for my country," said young Burhaunddin. At the age of five he first stepped into the skating boots and soon became passionate about the sports. "You can often spot him with his skating shoes on and skating around the house. It was his dedication for the sport that helped him achieve success," said Burhanuddin's uncle Muhammad Kachwala.

It was a great day for the Kachwala family when they received the letter announcing Burhanuddin's selection for the international event. The young skater, however, wants to become and astronaut after completing his studies. Three other young skaters including Yashvi Gala, Kshitij Shingre and Siddhant Kamble too bagged bronze medal in the competition while Akshayee Pawar secured 7th place and coach Rahul Rane in master (35 years and above ) category bagged 5th place. The victorious skaters of SFI were trained under the able guidance of Dhiraj Ubhe, Shailesh Dumbre, Prithviraj Shingre, Ravindra Misal and Rahul Rane.
